Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Garissa branch has faulted the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) over its alleged blame game in the insecurity of primary and secondary schools exams.
The Garissa branch Knut secretary Abdirizak Hussein now wants Knec to assure students and teachers of the security of the exams “instead of heaping blames” on them over alleged cheating cases in schools.
Speaking in Garissa Town on Thursday, Hussein stated that the council should cease from playing politics on serious matters of examinations.
“Knec should just concentrate its energies on securing the national examinations and stop looking for scapegoats in the name of cheating hotspots. It’s their responsibility to secure all the examination papers before administering, during and even after the exams,” Hussein said.
The Knut official also faulted the recent list of schools from Garissa alleged to have cheated in past exams, arguing that the council should just focus their energies on giant schools with more than 200 As in KCSE or even KCPE.
“Our students from this regions have worked hard. Knec should and must focus their energy on the big schools that used to get over 200 As. Those results were as a result of cheating in exams,” Abdirizak added.
The official further accused Knec of failing to take heed of their recommendations in the past that could have sealed all possible cheating avenues in exams.
