There was drama in Sango village in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County on Monday when mourners clashed injuring an MCA and two MPs' bodyguards during a funeral ceremony.
The event attended by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has drawn widespread condemnation especially from Western Kenya leaders who have called on police to conduct a thorough investigation into the ugly incident.
Three other people are said to have been seriously injured during the melee.
According to a brief statement released by the Ford Kenya party and shared on social media, the drama started when Kakamega Sports Chief Executive Robert Makhanu engaged in a verbal altercation with a local leader yet to be identified.
A section of the mourners who were angered by the CeC's utterances descended on him attracting a reaction from his supporters.
Police had to fire gunshots into the air to scare away the rowdy warring groups who were fighting as Wetangula and other local leaders including Likuyani MP Enock Kibunguchi whose driver was being buried watched.
The driver, Dauglas Wabomba Wakacha was recently shot dead in Kakamega during an attempt on MP Kibunguchi's life.
The injured Member of the Trans Nzoia County Assembly has only been identified as Hon Mlipuko and the injured bodyguards belong to Kimilili MP Dr Eseli Simiyu and Kibunguchi.
