The country's top court upheld Owino's win on the poll held on August 8, 2017, saying it was free and fair.

While reading the judgement, Justice Isaac Lenaola said chaos at a tallying centre cannot render the elections a sham and ruled the first-time MP was validly elected.

The petition had been filed by Jubilee Party candidate Francis Muriithi who had asked the court to nullify Owino's win and order a fresh election.

While reacting to the news, Murkomen congratulated the vocal legislator and also commended the petitioner for putting up a spirited fight.

"Congratulations @Babu_Owino for your victory and for Francis Mureithi for a spirited fight. Let’s move forward together!" the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator tweeted.

Murkomen and Owino were fierce political enemies during the 2017 campaigns and only made peace after the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

City lawyer Nelson Havi also had a message for the former University of Nairobi (UON) student leader.

"Congratulations my Brother @Babu_Owino. The Supreme Court has affirmed your election and the people’s choice of you as National Assembly Member for Embakasi East Constituency. Truth and justice always prevail, no matter how much some may seek to manipulate the judicial process," Havi also tweeted.
