The recent trend of murder cases among the young generation has been attributed to poor parenting and the effects of drug addiction.
Former NACADA boss John Mututho says unless the government and the society accept to deal with the vices, then there could be even more cases to be witnessed in the days to come.
Speaking in Nakuru on Monday during an interview at his rehab and empowerment Centre-JOMEC, the former Naivasha legislator also blamed the government for not coming up with policies to address the same.
According to Mututho, many youths are born already addicted to drugs at the clinical stage an issue he says should be addressed by the government of the day.
A research done by Nacada a few years ago indicated that Kenya has 8.1 million addicts a clinical stage. This finding the former Nacada boss says was never taken seriously.
“We have a very sick society because if in 50 million 8.1 million are addicts, then something has to be done through coming up with a national treatment program,” said Mututho.
While citing Miraa as one of the drugs that the society seems to embrace without knowing it has effects on the consumers, Mututho said time is now that the Government puts in place measures to save the young generation.
He called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i to act and ensure the youths are protected from harmful substances that are messing up their lives.
“I would also wish to call on my friend President Uhuru Kenyatta to come out as the commander in Chief to act and save this nation and the young generation,” said Mututho.
While commending the church for the role it has played in trying to shape the society, he took issue with parents over what he termed is a failure in their responsibility of parenting leading to many youths going into depression.
