Nakumatt is back to the big footballing stage in Kenya, Kenya Premier League (KPL). The shoppers downed Ushuru by a solitary goal in the first fixture and thrashed the taxmen 2-0 in the return leg, played on Sunday 20 October, to book a slot in next season’s KPL showpiece.
After the first leg win, Nakumatt needed a win of any kind or a draw of any kind to qualify, and they emerged victorious in the second leg but their coach, Mellis Medo, was not impressed by the display.
Speaking to news media, Medo explained that his team was nervous and played poorly. He accused his players of not playing according to plan. He suggested that the game could have been easier had his team strictly followed his game template.
He, however, thanked the players for giving their best and ensuring that they take part in KPL. Medo promised to have better plans so that they are not caught up in the same fix next season. Last year when being couched by Ken Kenyatta, they fell to Thika United by a 2-1 aggregate defeat.
They are now preparing to face several teams including local giants AFC Leopards and champions Gor Mahia FC who are the defending. There is also a threat from the promising Kariobangi Sharks and other teams.
