Kisii County women representative has now vowed to rally against those pushing for referendum including NASA leader Raila Odinga if they are planning to scrap off the Woman Representative seat.
According to Ongera the seat is crucial to ensure that women are empowered as well as young girls in schools and hence scrapping it off will lead to discrimination as well as lower representation of women in various capacities.
“Personally along with my colleagues We shall not allow that to happen in our watch, why are all those agitating for constitutional amendments claiming that the woman rep seat has led to a rise in wage bill?” said Ong'era
Speaking on Sunday during a church service in Itumbe area Ong’era urged those pushing for the calls to ensure that they weigh the goodness of the seat citing that eliminating the seat would mean that the marginalized and special groups will continue to suffer in the Country.
“I call upon all women as well as men who believe in equal rights for the girl child to ensure that they don't allow the seat to be scrapped off but instead push for more elective seats for women as they are the one who have done more than men in terms of development,” said Ongera
