Kisumu is Kenya's largest city and the western region's capital.
Here are some of the places with the scariest names in Kisumu County.
1. Kolweny
Kolweny is a tiny roadside town in Nyakatch constituency, Kisumu County.
The name translates to 'the place of war' or the 'place of fight' , a tittle that would be scary to many.
However, the place which sits at the foot of a nearby hill is very peaceful.
2. Sondu
Though the name has no scary meaning, the place has a bad reputation and history.
Also located in Nyakatch, it is considered one of the most insecure places in Luo Nyanza, and is documented in many Luo songs including Okatch Biggy's 'Nyathi Nyakatch' of 1996.
In the song, Okatch says ''Sondu rach asere neko (beware of Sondu where arrows are flying), a demonstration that it has always been volatile.
The place has for a very long time now been considered scary as a result of attacks from a neighboring community during cattle rustling raids.
3. Pand Pieri
Pand Pieri is a place in Kisumu, with a name that can be very scary for mischievous high school boys.
The name translates to 'hide your buttocks', and its not clear if it was meant to encourage people to hide their nudity or there existed a person who whipped people's bottoms in the region.
