David Mwai, 27, a key suspect in the attempted murder of former Garissa Finance Executive Idriss Mukhtar was hurriedly burried under tight security in Nakuru on Friday.
Mwai, 27, who confessed to detectives to having been paid to kill Mukhtar was burried at his grandmother's Ngamini home in Nakuru county.
The burial took less than two hours and was attended by family members under tight security.
According to a top detective who sought anonymity, the family was instructed to expedite the burial.
The detective says that they could not risk having the burial take long time because of security issues.
"The matter under investigation that also touched on the deceased is sensitive and that is why we advised for quick burial," he said.
The detective said that it was also necessary for plain cloths officers to keep vigil in case of any commotions or securiy threats.
"Matters under such circumstances are always treated this way," he added.
He said that investigations are still on with some suspects being tracked.
Several human rights groups have questioned the circumstances under which Mwai died in police cells.
An autopsy report by the government pathologist showed that Mwai died by hanging.
Two key other suspects Mohamud Hussein Aden and Juliet Njoki are in custody as investigations continue.
Mukhtar is battling for his life in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) even as his family appeal for financial aid to foot rising medical bills.
