The end is approaching for many second-term governors in the nation, among them Homabay county boss Cyprian Awiti who is set for retirement after the 2022 general polls.
Jamawego alias Akuba came to power on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket in 2013, and retained it in 2017.
This was with the backing of his running mate and deputy Hamilton Orata who, however, is not as vocal as him.
Consequently, Awiti will most likely endorse Orata to take over from him in the approaching 2022 polls, failure to which he will come out as a betrayer.
Unless Orata is not interested in the seat and wishes to retire with him, endorsing another candidate will be an act of ungratefulness to the man who twice supported his bid, and also loyally and respectfully served under him for 10 years.
Also, Awiti will be more safe with the county in the hands of his deputy as Orata will be very unlikely to bring out any mischief that happened during his (Awiti's) tenure.
This is because any revelation he makes will as well drag him in since he was part of the leadership.
Cases of misappropriation of public funds that have been been haunting former Governors will therefore not be expected to stain his (Awiti's) name, with Orata in power.
It is as well obvious that the county boss will not have realized all the promises he gave to the people during the campaign period, a failure he might have to answer to sooner or later.
But with Orata in power, he can be sure that many of them will reach completion, the credit going back to him as their original founder and proposer.
Consequently, his legacy will remain intact though he was not involved in the full implementation.
But his will not be the case should another a candidate with different plans and ideologies take over.
