A local chief in Kisii has revealed why he carries illicit brewing apparatus from chang'aa dens every time a raid is held.
Bomariba sub-location assistant chief Benjamin Ayuma Opanga said he decided to be carrying the brewing apparatus from various chang'aa dens in his area of jurisdiction to ensure chang'aa dealers suffer total losses.
"I discovered that when the brewing apparatus is destroyed partly and left at the chang'aa dens, the illicit brewers repair the apparatus to re-use again. I made a decision to be carrying the apparatus to my office to ensure the dealers have nothing left when the illicit brew is poured," he revealed.
He insisted that he is not afraid of fighting the brewing, selling, distribution and consumption of illicit brew.
The chief noted that illicit brew common in the area include 'busaa' and chang'aa.
"I will fight the illicit business and dealers without fear of favour. Locals should venture into legal businesses to earn a living," he added.
Ayuma assured that the raids to chang'aa dens will continue day and night in the whole sub-location until locals engaging in the illicit businesses stop.
He was speaking at his office on Thursday after raiding a chang'aa den in Nyabiosi village.
