Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has now linked threats by a section of Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to impeach him to the 2022 succession politics.
Governor Sonko alleges that some MCAs are taking instructions from his political enemies to bring him down.
According to the county boss, some people feel threatened by his popularity and want to finish him before the 2022 general election.
Speaking when he launched free milk programme for ECD pupils at Martin Luther primary school in Makadara on Friday, Sonko claimed that his enemies are using every trick to bring him down.
"Tunajua hizi kelele zote za impeachment ni maneno inahusu 2022 na mimi sitashutuliwa na mtu yeyote (We know all these noises and threats of impeachment is all about 2022 politics and I will not be intimidated," the governor said.
Sonko also claimed that his enemies feel threatened by his war against corruption and cartels at City Hall.
He said that corrptuion is rife in the Nairobi county government and cartels are fighting him for castigating it.
Sonko said that he will not be intimidated in his push to serve Nairobians and that he will not be derailed by petty and empty threats.
Last week, Nairobi MCAs issued Sonko with a two-week ultimatum to appoint a deputy governor or face impeachment.
