Bungoma Senator who is also the Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula has been the topic of discussion recently due to his links to the fake gold scam.
Outspoken Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has now revisited the Senator's tweet that raised eyebrows when Barclays Bank was involved in an incident where fake currency was found in one of its customer's safe box.
Wetangula had on March 19, 2019, tweeted; "Is it possible that a respected international bank like Barclays can have fake currency in its safe? I think not!! Can the bank defend its reputation or be seriously sanctioned by the regulator?"
Lawyer Ahmednasir on Sunday replied to the tweet, perhaps in a sarcastic way as the Senator has recently been linked to the ongoing probe in the fake gold scam.
On March 19th this year, the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti reported that Sh2 billion in fake currency was found at the Barclays Bank Queensway branch stored in a customer's safe box after an operation that involved flying squad officers and DCI officers.
Senator Wetangula's tweet appeared to suggest that he does not believe that a bank like Barclays, which is respected internationally, could have fake currency in its customer's safe box.
In a leaked audio conversation between the alleged agent of the Saudi Prince and a person sounding like Senator Wetangula, President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM party leader Raila Odinga and Interior CS Fred Matiangi names are mentioned.
Editor's: An earlier version of this article incorrectly implied that the fake dollars were found in the bank. We have since fixed the mistakes to clarify that the fake currency was found in the safe box of a customer in the bank.
