A week ago, Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji went to the United Kingdom in a mission to recover billions obtained through illegal deals by corrupt Kenyans and stashed in offshore accounts.

This follows an agreement between President Uhuru Kenyatta and British Prime Minister Theresa May to join hands and help Kenya recover and repatriate assets and proceeds of crime and corruption which was signed when May toured the country recently.

A local blogger, Robert Alai, however, now claims efforts by DCI Kinoti and DPP Haji will amount to nothing since those involved in the multi-billion scandal are 'untouchable'.

In a tweet on Sunday, Alai alleged that among those who are hiding billions in secret accounts abroad are former powerful ministers Charles Njonjo and Mbiyu Koinange.

The two held powerful positions during the regime of Kenya's founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, with Njonjo serving as the Attorney General and Koinange being at the helm of the influential Ministry of State in the Office of the President.

Mbiyu Koinange served as Kiambaa Constituency MP and cabinet minister from 1963 to 1979 while Charles Njonjo’s who is popularly referred to as "The Duke of Kabeteshire” remains one of the richest people who hail from Kiambu County.

Also mentioned was veteran politician and former presidential candidate Simeon Nyachae.

The blogger further asserted that despite the expectation of many that Deputy President William Ruto would feature prominently in the fraud, he was nowhere to be found.

"When Haji and Kinoti recently went to London to track stashed loot, they didn’t get the name of Ruto but got names which scared them. The two can’t act on recovering the loot. Nyachae, Njonjo, Mbiyu Koinange families lead in the shading of money abroad," Alai posted.
