Taxi drivers led by Ezekiel Machuki claimed that the female revenue collector, Pacifica Ongoro went to the taxi parking area and asked one of the taxi drivers to give her a Sh200 bribe.

“Ongoro is one of the rogue revenue collectors Nyamira County has. She came to me and asked me to give her a bribe of Sh200 so that I can park my car for the whole of this week without paying. I had to inform my colleagues since I knew she was lying to me,” said Machuki.

Machuki informed his colleagues who confronted Ongoro and demanded an explanation.

"We caught her leaning on the window of Machuki’s car asking for a bribe. We frog-marched her away and beat her up for engaging in corruption which is illegal,” said Christopher Oeri, another taxi driver in the town.

Area administrator Charles Nyabuto confirmed the incident and said the rogue county officer received a thorough beating from the taxi drivers before she was rescued.

“I was in my office when Mrs. Ongoro was brought by the taxi drivers on grounds that she tried to solicit a bribe from one of them. I could not keep her in the office since she was bleeding from her nose after a thorough beating. I asked her colleagues to take her to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

The chief assured that he will forward the case to the county revenue collection department to take disciplinary action against the culprit.

He called on traders to report any revenue collector soliciting for a bribe.
