A fortnight ago, President Uhuru Kenyatta could have after all hinted what awaited outgoing Sports minister Rashid Echesa in a Cabinet meeting where he allegedly scolded his team for laxity at State House, reports the Standard.
During the meeting, a Uhuru warned ministers against persistent politicking, pointing out at Echesa, whom he reportedly accused of engaging politicians at the Western region. After the meeting, Uhuru who travelled to Arusha, made stopovers at Kitengela and Namanga where he insisted he would sack ministers engaging in politics.
“Echesa was told he is not a Luhya CS. There is no docket for Luhya affairs,” reports the Saturday Standard.
And on Thursday, a day before Uhuru kicked out the 36-year-old minister, the former ODM Youth League leader seemed to have a clue on his impending exit.
In an interview with the Nation, Echesa blamed his political rivals for his already damaged relationship with his boss, adding that even of sacked, he would remain forever grateful.
“I have achieved a dream I never thought of and will forever remain thankful to God. The title will remain because people will refer to me as a former Cabinet secretary,” he said.
“They are wishing for me to be sacked as if they will all be appointed to take over. They should know it is God who uplifts an individual to whatever level he wants,” he told the Nation by phone.
At political rallies, Echesa fiercely defended DP William Ruto, whom he credits for his appointment to the cabinet barely 13 months ago.
