The colorful event during the swearing of Kisii Governor James Ongwae became an exciting function after he was sworn in twice in a span of 15 minutes.
This happened at Kisii stadium on August 2017 and it has remained in the memories of many people as it was unprecedented swearing in.
The governor was taking an oath of office to serve people for the second time as directed by Lady Grace Nzioka at 11.45 AM while his deputy Joash Maangi took the oath of office at 11.52AM.
People who attended the function realized that Ongwae had taken the oath of office without holding a bible yet he was a Christian. This made his supporters to react first as this could be used to table a petition in the court of law to challenge the swearing-in ceremony as it was not conducted as per the law.
However, the Kisii Chief Magistrate John Njoroge asked the people to calm down and said that the process had to repeat to change the anomaly as it was done without the governor holding the bible yet he was a Christian.
“We have realized that the governor did not hold the Bible while taking the oath of office yet he is a Christian. We are going to repeat the whole process since some people can say that it was not done properly.” Njoroge said.
This forced the Governor to take the oath of office while holding the Bible for the second time at 12.00 PM. Where he wholeheartedly promised to serve the residents to his best level. Deputy Governor Maangi was also sworn after Ongwae taking the oath.
The event became a success with many people attending it. Among those who attended it include, the Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama, the Kisii Senator-elect then, Sam Ongeri, Kisii Women Representative-elect then, Janet Ong’era and Kisii County Commissioner Samuel Njora.
