President Uhuru Kenyatta has poured cold water on 2022 succession politics, arguing that politicians should stop maneuvering around the country.
At Seme constituency during the burial of Mama Dorcas Owino, Governor Anyang Nyong'o's mother, Uhuru instead said his mission is to preach peace, cohesion and development first.
The Head of State said he must straighten things such as winning the fight against corruption among others before engaging in vicious succession politics.
"We agreed that the only thing that could change Kenya was our coming together and working together to straighten things in this nation," Uhuru said as quoted by the Nation.
"The time for politics will come. Let's fix Kenya first then play politics. We refuse to be divided; let's continue staying together."
The President's sentiments were echoed by ODM leader Raila Odinga who said the government must fix corruption vice first and other past injustices before focusing on 2022.
"We agreed that we needed to change this country. I have said before that my brother and I agreed to come together ...we know where we are coming from, where we are and where we are going as Kenya. We know where the rain started beating us."
The ODM leader identified corruption as a major impediment to growth. He promised to support the president until he wins the graft war.
