A week ago, veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga descended on Wajir at the invitation of Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi.
Odinga and his entourage were in the county to attend a fund-raiser.
What many people don't know is the amount of money that was raised in that fund-raiser.
According to Fatuma Gedi, Sh60 million was raised. She made that revelation on her Twitter handle.
"We collected Sh60m. I also launched NITA program where 200 youths across the county will acquire industrial training," reads part of the Woman Reps tweet.
The money collected will be used to fund Islamic institutions in the county.
Also present for the fund-raiser was flamboyant Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.
The event helped distract attention away from the troubles that have dogged Gedi and position her as a force to reckon with politically.
Fatuma Gedi, a Jubilee MP, was a staunch critic of Raila before the handshake that helped cool down the political temperatures.
Pundits observe that the fund-raiser could help the embattled Wajir Woman Rep politically. She could defend her Woman Rep seat or seek another seat in the 2022 general elections.
Over the years, Gedi has emerged as one of the vocal politicians from Northern Kenya.
