Taita Taveta women representative Lydia Haika has raised concern over the deteriorating health standards at the Moi Referral Hospital in Voi sub-county.
Haika claimed the said facility is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and unless quick action is taken then patients would continue losing their lives.
“This hospital is in the ICU as patients are getting inadequate services while others were dying out of negligence. The health facility is failing us. Expectant women and children are dying due to alleged negligence and frequent power blackout at the facility,” said the MP.
“The county administration should rise to the occasion and rectify the situation as soon as possible so as to give quality services to her citizenry especially the vulnerable groups like women, children, and people living with disabilities."
Haika made these remarks in Voi on Thursday when she presented cheques from the National Government Affirmative Action Fund – NGAAF to various groups undertaking different development projects.
The legislator claimed that so far five deaths of expectant mothers had been reported at the facility, claims that Health CeC Dr Frank Mwangemi refuted saying only one expectant mother had died.
County Director of Communications Denis Onsarigo also came to the defence of the county administration saying the hospital was receiving patients from as far as Tanzania and neighbouring counties of Makueni, Machakos and Kwale and was overwhelmed.
