Last week, Uhuru was among the first dignitaries to pay tribute to Mr Jonathan Moi, a former Safari rally driver who won several accolades before his retirement in 1997.

Mr Moi Junior unsuccessfully contested for Eldama Ravine parliamentary seat.

"To Your Excellency former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, your family and friends, I have received the news this morning of the passing away of my friend and brother Jonathan Toroitich Moi with great shock and disbelief. As I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to your Excellency, your family and friends, I pray God to grant each one of you the grace and strength to bear with the big loss," Uhuru said on Saturday.

At Kabarak on Monday, Uhuru is said to have assured the Moi family of his support throughout the mourning period.

Mzee Moi’s Press secretary Lee Njiru said the former president has greatly appreciated Mr Kenyatta’s visit.

“Mzee Moi thanked president Kenyatta for grieving with the bereaved family,” said Mr Njiru.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi ushered President Uhuru in before the Head of State held a private meeting with the octogenerian.

Afterwards, Uhuru met Governor John Longanyapuo and his delegation that had visited as well.

Mr Moi Junior was the eldest of Moi sons and the second born after Jenifer Moi. Others in the family are John Mark, Raymond, Philip, Doris, Gideon and June.
