Mr Moi died on Saturday at Medheal Hospital in Nakuru with the family saying he'd been battling Pancreatic Cancer. He was aged 64 at the time of his death.

Photos of the president helding talks with the former President surfaced on social media. On Sunday, Moi family, through Lee Njiru, said that the octogenerian would not receive any visitor throughout the mourning period.

"We the family of H.E Mzee Moi confirm the sad news on the passing on of Jonathan Toroitich. Jonathan will be remembered for his daring exploits in the racing tracks, in muddy and dusty tracks, during this time of Easter. He was amiable, social and down - to - earth and industrious human being," read the statement.

"We are distraught as family and we ask for your prayers and seek your understanding and indulgence to allow us mourn privately. We will continue to inform Kenyans on need basis and further arrangements," Gideon added.

But owing to President Uhuru Kenyatta's position as Head of State, his presence in Kabarak is not a big surprise. On Saturday, Uhuru described Jonathan as a 'kind and humble' Kenyan. He vowed to stand with the family.

At Kabarak, Uhuru was ushered in my Jonathan's younger brother and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi. The body of Mr Moi Junior was taken to Lee Funeral Home. The family is yet to announce the exact burial dates.

Jonathan won several awards in Safari rally, a game he'd ventured into without the father's blessings. He vied Eldama Ravine parliamentary seat unsuccessfully in 2002.

Since then, he has largely stayed a private life. President Uhuru Kenyatta is a close family friend of Moi's. In 2002, the elderly Moi picked Uhuru as his successor but lost to Mwai Kibaki.
