According to reports on Capital FM,  the government through the National Police Service and other security agencies, will explore professional avenues to secure the release of the duo without paying any money.

“We would not encourage payment of ransom to criminals as a matter of procedure because that would encourage kidnappings. We’ll use methods provided for in law while carrying out our duties,” said police spokesperson Charles Owino.

While welcoming a move by local Somali elders to negotiate for the release of the abducted doctors, Owino noted that the government will not interfere with their efforts.

“If there are any negotiations to release the doctors then so be it. Our major interest is to have the doctors back and we will continue to do our work to ensure that happens,” He noted.

The two Cuban doctors went missing on Friday morning.
