The party's flag will be flown by current MP Chris Karan who will, however, be facing off with among others, David Ochieng' of the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG).

The race is currently considered a contest between the two, but Karan appears very likely to beat Ochieng' who is is predecessor and who petitioned his 2017 election in court.

Karan enjoys that backing of the region's dominant party, on whose ticket all area lawmakers are elected, making him the winner in waiting, judging by the arithmetic of probability.

He is also basking in the support of opposition leader Raila Odinga who is the ODM boss, the region's defacto leader, whose endorsement is almost an election guarantee.

Ochieng' is on the other hand all alone, considering that he is the founder of his party which doesn't have any elected members and doesn't have any notable backing.

At the same time, he has been linked to Deputy President William Ruto, Raila's political nemesis, and this alone is enough to take away the support he had in Luo Nyanza.

Karan is also enjoying the support of powerful local and national leaders like Siaya Senator James Orengo who has been spearheading his campaigns.

This is very likely to bring in huge returns, leaving Ochieng' and the others with nothing to brag about.

Above all, ODM being a national party has more financial muscles, giving Karan an advantage over his rival.

These point at a man who will have won even before the vote count is complete.

The rerun is set for early April.
