The woman identified as Ms Abdia Omar died after a fierce shootout in her home, where security officers from a local police station stormed her house following a tip-off that her criminal son was holed there.

Confirming the incident, Mandera OCPD Mr Anthony Muriuki revealed that the said woman was shot but refuted claims that she was shot by the officers from DCI Rhamu.

"It is true one person, a woman, died from a bullet wound during the shootout. Two officers were also wounded during the operation. None of our officers shot at anyone in the said residential plot," stated Muriuki.

The incident has widely been condemned by locals who now claim the officers are out to eliminate some members of the community.

"It is insincere for the police to say they never shot at anybody in the residential area. Common sense tells me that in a shootout police must respond back by firing. We know they are out to eliminate some of our members," said a relative to the slain woman, identified as Abdikarim.
