In an interview on KTN's Sunday edition, Mokua claimed that Raila is rebranding himself through his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy Hassan Joho, saying that he is the force behind the Mombasa Governor's sudden political activeness.

This comes barely two days after Joho met retired President Daniel Moi and his son and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi at the ex-president's Kabarak home.

According to Mokua, Raila is careful not to contradict his Building Bridges Initiative co-led with President Uhuru Kenyatta, under which they have repeatedly called for political calm and the stop of continued politicking.

"Now that Raila is with Uhuru, there are some political things he cannot openly do, which are now being done by his ally and deputy Hassan Joho," said the commentator.

He noted that Joho is also set for complete participation in the race, saying that he is preparing himself to deputize Raila as his running mate.

He added that the meeting should also not be taken lightly, stating that the team is most likely planning something big and might end up in an alliance aimed at capturing power.

"Joho is most likely eyeing Raila's running mate position and will most likely end up in the same side with Moi as they have been very close lately and are most likely working on something.
