Former Cabinet Minister Ochillo Ayacko has been picked by ODM party as de jure candidate for Migori senatorial by-election.
The decision, which was arrived at by the Central Committee on Thursday, came hours after the former Rongo MP lost petition against Migori Governor Okoth Obado in Kisumu.
In a statement, the committee said that all aspirants had been called for a meeting on Thursday where direct nomination was agreed upon.
“Aspirants who showed interest in the seat were invited to Nairobi yesterday and had a meeting with the Central Committee together with the NEB and were taken through the process of nomination. They all agreed to the decision on direct nomination,” read the statement.
But financial constraints according to party Treasurer Timothy Bosire informed the party's decision.
"We did not have enough resources to conduct nomination and that is why we decided to take a compromise."
Among those who were interested include former MPs John Pesa, Omondi Anyanga, Dalmas Otieno among others.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Ben Okello, a former Radio presenter cum politician.
With IEBC slating October 8th as date for by-election, Ochillo is expected to carry the day due to the party's dominance in the region.
