A charged Deputy President William Ruto has intensified campaigns to reclaim vote rich Gusii region that has traditionally backed Raila Odinga.
To the effect, Ruto has recruited virtually all MPs and a few influential young and old politicians, notably, Antony Kibagendi, wgo coordinates youth affairs from his Harambee Annex.
Last week, Ruto toured Kitutu Masaba, Nyaribari Chache, Kitutu Chache North and Bobasi constituencies in a span of one week further raising eyebrows.
While Raila has not declared interest ahead of 2022,he has however hinting a possible fifth stab at presidency when he toured Kisii and Nyamira Counties in August.
Timothy Bosire, the ODM Treasurer, is Raila's lead campaigner and mobiliser from the region. The former Kitutu Masaba MP, who is keen to succeed Governor John Nyagarama, is vocal on both local and national matters.
On Wednesday, he dismissed Ruto's endless trips to Gusii, accusing him of launching fake projects with no approval from National Treasury.
Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri has also been instrumental in advocating for Raila's leadership. Joining from TNA in the last elections, Ongeri is one of Raila's trusted lieutenant and adviser.
Firebrand Nyamira Senator Okong'o Mogeni is also an instrumental pointman for Raila Odinga's quest. The first term legislator also doubles as ODM lawyer.
Mr Mogeni, a former LSK president, is on record for disowning Mwai Kibaki's victory in 2007, and has since worked with the ODM leader.
Although their terms is set to expire in 2022, Governor James Ongwae (Kisii) and John Nyagarama (Nyamira), are equally important in Raila's quest.
There grassroot mobilisation and ability to move masses could be needed in ODM campaigns in 2022. However, the two governor's often snub hard politics and try to be neutral on divisive campaigns.
The two counties have estimated 1 million voters and the number could be much high after before 2022 polls.
