Muthama accused Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and his Machakos counterpart Alfred Mutua of staging a rebellion against the Wiper Party leader in the region.

The vocal politician said the duo were non-starters on matters politics and challenged them to prove they were more popular than Kalonzo outside Ukambani.

"I want to challenge Prof Kibwana and Dr Mutua to organise a rally at Tononoka in Mombasa or in Maasailand, if they manage to attract 1,000 people I’ll ask Kalonzo to quit politics in their favour," Muthama said, speaking to Nation.

The former Machakos legislator was reacting after Kibwana and Mutua alongside Kitui county boss Charity Ngilu held a couple of meetings where they accused Kalonzo of failing to steer the region into development despite being the de-facto leader for several decades.

The leaders have called for fresh leadership in Ukambani and vowed to rally the community in a different political route.

"Going forward, we'll speak with one voice to unite the community and negotiate directly with the national government on the issues affecting our region," said Mutua when the trio meet three weeks ago.
