According to Waititu, buildings should not be demolished but rather rivers diverted.

"I do not support the issue of demolitions. If your building is close to a river, you should incur the costs of having the river moved a little further,” said Waititu.

However, the county boss has received backlash on social media following the comments.

Here are reactions from Kenyans.

@jesang Someone in Kiambu county 2017 went to the polling station and did this:President- UhuruGovernor - Ferdinand WaitituMP- Moses Kuria

@NelsonHavi Ferdinand Waititu says we move the river to accommodate a building. What will we do next: move the sun to stop heatwaves; block rainfall to prevent floods and change seasons to maintain uniform weather? Kenyan gods must be crazy. We better move them to the moon.

@gabrieloguda Ferdinand Waititu now says the govt must stop the demolition of buildings sitting on riparian land; and give time for the structure owners to move the wetlands further away from their buildings. Yes, you heard that right. And you can't make this stuff up.

@NdegeSerikal Everytime Ferdinand Waititu opens his mouth to speak, he confirms that there is nothing tangible between his ears. This confirms that Kiambu has a Pumpkin for a Governor. Before ''moving'' the rivers, people of Kiambu should move him from his seat.

@EtalePhilip Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu says he does not support the ongoing demolitions on riparian land..instead Babayao says govt should give developers an option of 'moving' the rivers slightly.

@erickogi Kenyans please don't judge Ferdinand Waititu, the guy is not okay, he is the same guy who is doing stairs instead of roads in Limuru, you wonder how will cars, motorbikes and even animals go up the stairs, the question is, is Waititu okay "Upstairs"?,only time will tell

@Edkamu Ferdinand Waititu owns poorly constructed houses in eastlands and Kibera. He fears he may be next.

@frankyngash I think ferdinand waititu tried to suggest that the river should be moved by the green bulldozer..
