Suba North lawmaker Millie Odhiambo Mabona has decried an increase of funerals in her area, some of which she claims are fake.
The firebrand lawmaker on Friday claimed that frauds are using fake funerals to steal monies from politicians in contributions.
She admitted to having been personally conned by people very familiar, some of whom she claims are now using the trend to fend for themselves and their families.
She recalled a recent incident where she sent her people to attend a funeral function, only to find that she had been misled.
"Increasingly, people lie about death just to get food on the table. It is very sad. In one instance, my representatives arrived at a home to say pole to a guy personally known to me for losing the son. The family were shocked to learn they were supposedly bereaved,” reports the People Daily on Friday.
The opposition leader's ally said that she personally confirmed the new vice after attending another such event, only to find that there was nothing of the sort despite having been notified earlier.
Nevertheless, she said that once in the leadershi position, yo have to learn to live with such.
“However, you learn to take it easy. I was told part of leadership is that you must be conned frequently,” she added.
