Controversial lawyer and political commentator Prof. Makau Mutua has slammed a section of Kalenjin Members of Parliament (MPs) over their recent response on graft war.
Mutua on his Twitter account noted that the Kalenjin legislators led by Kipchumba Murkomen are speaking on behalf of Deputy President William Ruto and their attacks on Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) would not be witnessed if George Kinoti was a Kalenjin.
“Several Kalenjin MPs — led by Murkomen and clearly speaking for William Ruto — call for an “independent” office of DCI. Take this to the bank — they wouldn’t do so if Kinoti was a Kalenjin,” tweeted the outspoken lawyer.
He was responding to allegations by a section of Rift Valley politicians that the graft war was targeting the DP and the entire Kalenjin community.
The politicians have also claimed that graft war was part of efforts to bar DP Ruto from rising to the presidency.
Kapseret legislator Oscar Sudi has been at the forefront of defending DP Ruto and has openly criticized President Uhuru Kenyatta, the DCI and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), a move that has sparked sharp political reactions countrywide.
