Kiambu county governor Ferdinand Waititu on Thursday found himself on the receiving end after appearing before the Senate Public Accounts Committee.
Waititu had been summoned by the Senate committee give light to queries raised by the Auditor General regarding the 2018/2019 financial year.
He had a hard time explaining to the committee led by Senator Moses Kajwang ridiculous budget lines and expenditures in his county.
Kenyans on social media have expressed shock as the audit report unearthed mind-blowing expenditures.
Kenyans were puzzled by the alleged 'expenditures' that have rocked Kiambu county. A number of Kenyans have called for immediate impeachment citing that high level of incompetence in the administration.
Waititu defended the irregular allocations, saying his finance officers had misused a template borrowed from State House for purposes of guiding their budget allocation.
"I am apologizing that we have such issues in our report. There must be someone who used the template. However, I want to assure this committee that there was no money spent on South Sudan, on State House, and on free primary education because we do not have a budget vote for that,” Waititu said.
Among the weird expenditures were on the State House affairs that received Ksh 973 Million and peacekeeping advisory that was allocated Ksh 58 Million.
