Traders operating behind Market Plaza Building within Kisii town in Kisii County have disowned 'sluggish' area governor James Ongwae over uncollected garbage.
They claimed that the county boss is unambitious.
"We are paying taxes to the county government daily but, garbage has not been collected for the last 4 months. Governor Ongwae is 'slothful' and we can't continue supporting his administration through paying taxes yet his government is doing nothing over the garbage," said a trader Mellen Nyaboke, a fruit vendor.
Agnes Bikeri stated that a foul smell has been emanating from the heap of uncollected garbage.
"Our efforts to have garbage be collected have been in vain. Ongwae's government won't improve the lives of poor residents. It is regretful that we elected a failure only interested in serving his own interests," she noted.
Emmanuel Ondosu, a butchery operator blamed Governor Ongwae for the decline in business transactions.
"Customers no longer come to buy meat due to the bad smell from the uncollected garbage. I am not going to pay taxes until the 'rogue' government collects garbage," he said.
The traders threatened to stage demos if the garbage will not be collected by Monday next week.
