On November 28, 2014, former Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang was finally laid to rest in an emotional send-off.
The charismatic politician who had reigned supreme in the county politics for nearly two decades was one of NASA leader Raila Odinga's political pillars.
And just like many other past funeral services, the event was taken over by politicians who turned the function into a full-fledged political rally with political salvos fired.
And at the center of the salvos was Ababu Namwamba, then Budalang'i MP.
In his memorable speech, the self-declared ODM General warned those undermining Raila to brace for a ferocious political contest during the 2017 election saying that the former Prime Minister was rebranding.
"Those who have imagined that ODM is weakened, that our house is falling apart, I tell you ' poleni sana'. Our worthy rivals wherever you are, I want to tell you this, be afraid because Raila Amollo Odinga is rebranding and reloading," said the lawmaker who would later take over as the party's Secretary General.
Slightly over one year later, the vocal lawmaker would ditch ODM claiming that he had been denied powers to carry out reforms within the party.
However, the move sealed his fate in the 2017 election as he was toppled from his MP seat by his longtime rival Raphael Wanjala of ODM.
