Counties from North Eastern have recorded the least road fatalities this year, a report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has revealed.
Wajir and Marsabit recorded 10 deaths each this year followed by Mandera and Isiolo counties with 9 deaths each.
Nairobi County leads with the number of road accidents has recorded 411 deaths followed by Kiambu County with 270 and Nakuru County came in third with 230 deaths.
Machakos was forth having recorded 178 deaths and it was followed by Kericho (124) and Makueni (105).
Elgeyo Marakwet recorded the least road fatalities with only 4 deaths in the report which covered the whole year from January to December 10 that revealed a total of 2,917 road users have lost their lives.
In the report, the number of drivers who lost their lives this year has reduced to 285 compared to 290 in 2017.
The number of pedestrians who died this year increased to 1,117 compared to last year’s 999 while motorcyclists (boda-boda) increased to 775 deaths compared to 674 last year.
Passengers come in third with 682 deaths while pedal cyclists recorded 58 deaths an increase of 4 deaths compared to last year.
According to the report, 2,330 male road users lost their lives compared to only 592 females.
The report did reveal the factors that contributed to low road deaths in North Eastern.
