Outgoing Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa now says he does not understand why President Uhuru Kenyatta relieved him of his duties, adding that the news caught him off guard.
Through an executive order on Friday, Uhuru dropped Echesa from the ministry in favour of Ambassador Amina Mohammed, who was moved from the Education Ministry.
On Saturday, Mr Echesa while at a function in Mumias asked the president to reveal to Kenyans why he was kicked out, adding that he only learnt about his predicaments on TV.
"A lot has happened. I also don't know and I am waiting to be told why I was sacked. I only learnt it on TV just like many of us," disclosed Echesa.
While it was expected that Uhuru could sack a number of ministers, Echesa was least expected since his docket has not been linked to any scandal.
He has however been involved in a number of controversies, especially in the political arena.
A day before being fired, Echesa seemed to know what was awaiting him. He has accused unnamed people of frustrating him in government.
Mr Echesa, however, blamed his political detractors for his woes.
“They are wishing for me to be sacked as if they will all be appointed to take over. They should know it is God who uplifts an individual to whatever level he wants,” he told the Nation by phone.
Sources close to State House hint that Uhuru could unleash on five more ministers, even as NIS investigates their possible link to various scandals.
