Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has been put on the spot over his 'go to hell' remarks.
Speaking on Monday in Mombasa, Balala said that those calling for his resignation over the death of 11 rhinos to go to hell.
Reacting to the remarks, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the sentiments have brought the presidency into disrepute.
"We feel it is important to remind CS Balala of the provisions of Article 73(1)(a)(ii) of the Constitution which states that "the authority assigned to a state officer must be exercised in a manner that demonstrates respect for the people," Sifuna said in a statement.
The rhinos died at the Tsavo National Park after being translocated from Nairobi and Nakuru National Parks. Balala has been on the spot to explain the translocation process.
The CS blamed senior Kenya Wildlife Service officials for the death. He said that he wont be intimidated by individuals who are after personal gains if he resigns.
"Nobody has appointed me. It is only [President] Uhuru Kenyatta who has appointed me. So they can go to hell, I can tell them that. [President] Uhuru Kenyatta is the only one who has appointed me here and he knows I have the capacity to run the wildlife docket," Balala said.
