Speaking to the media on Sunday afternoon, the inspector general of police, Joseph Boinnet expressed his concern over pedestrian’s continuous violation of traffic rules on Kenyan a roads.

“I don’t know why Kenyans are fond of ignoring small rules and regulations on the roads, in as much as people attribute road carnage to careless driving and other factors, it has come to our notice that the people walking on the roads are fond of violating traffic rules and this makes drivers commit offences which results in accidents,” said the agitated Boinnet.

Boinnet singled out how most pedestrians were fond of crossing busy highways where there is no zebra crossing line or where there is no flyover.

“Even where somebody is clearly seeing a flyover, they choose to avoid it and cross on a busy highway and most of them end up being injured; I am not saying that pedestrians are the only cause of accidents but it is high time they strictly adhere to traffic rules,” he added.

Boinnet urged road users across the country to fully embrace traffic rules and regulations so as to minimize road carnage. He added that police were always doing their based to bring order to Kenyan roads.
