Nyamira residents have expressed their feelings after Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld Governor John Nyagarama election.
Walter Nyambati, who lost to Nyagarama, had moved to the top court protesting Governor Nyagarama's win during the August 8, 2017 polls.
Justice Njoki Ndung'u, who led the five bench judges ruled that Governor Nyagarama was elected validly.
"Having scrutinized the evidence from both parties, we find no discrepancies that can lead to nullification. The respondent was validly the elected and the court hereby upholds his victory. The petitioner shall pay all costs," read the ruling.
Back in Nyamira County, locals have reacted differently.
"Governor John Nyagarama must now work for the people. It is high time he should extend the handshake to his rival Nyambati," said Gladys Machoni.
Peter Oyugi said: "Nyagarama's win is a blow to Nyambati who has been desperately seeking a gubernatorial by-election."
Nickson Ongeri urged Nyambati to consider joining hands with Nyagarama for the sake of accelerated development in Nyamira.
"Nyambati should give Nyagarama humble time to deliver following the historic Supreme court ruling. Nyamira is lugging behind," noted Ongeri.
