Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua has said that a crackdown on individuals polluting rivers in the county will start early next week.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Mutua said that conservation of the environment is essential insisting that balance between industry and environment was non-negotiable.
"I wish to notify those involved that my government will start a crackdown on those who are poisoning our rivers starting this coming Tuesday, April 30th 2019," he said.
Mutua, however, affirmed his support for the growth of industries and manufacturing but insisted that the industries must operate in a more ethical and proper manner.
The county boss further noted that his administration will not allow making money to be an excuse to kill "our children, youth and parents".
"Just because our people struggle in poverty and do not have the voice when it comes to economic issues, it does not mean they have to suffer and be treated as the wretch of the earth," Mutua said in the Facebook post.
The governor further promised to stand and fight for the welfare of the voiceless and for economic liberation of his people.
