A section of Ukambani Wiper Party politicians now wants Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua to quit the 2022 presidential race.
The politicians argue that Mutua should quit the race in respect for Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who has equally declared his interest in the presidential seat in the next polls.
Speaking at Kitui Goat Auction Center in Kitui town on Sunday, the politicians led by Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua vowed to make Mutua quit the race.
The politicians argue that Mutua's bid for the presidency is calculated at spoiling Kalonzo’s chances of ascending to power.
According to the politicians, Kalonzo is the senior and experienced Kamba politician and has to be on the presidential ballot.
“We are asking our brother and friend governor Mutua to shelve his presidential ambition in support of Kalonzo Musyoka,” Wambua said.
Wambua said Kalonzo has the blessings of the Kamba community hence all leaders must support him.
“Governor Mutua should respect Kalonzo and step down for him in relation to the 2022 presidential election,” Mwingi central MP Gideon Mulyungi said.
Mulyungi said Kalonzo will easily win the forthcoming presidential election if all Kamba politicians and locals support him.
Makueni Woman Representative Rose Museo said Kalonzo is the Kamba leader and must be on the presidential ballot in 2022.
Museo called on Kamba politicians to unite and rally behind Kalonzo’s presidency.
Mutua has, however, maintained that he will not shelve his 2022 presidential bid for Kalonzo or anyone else.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader says he has what it takes to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Political analyst Peter Ngure observes that Kalonzo must unite the Kamba community if he is serious in contesting for the presidency.
The analyst argues that disunity in Kalonzo’s backyard could deny him votes in the forthcoming general elections.
