Starehe MP Charles Kanyi popularly known as Jaguar and political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi have lauded Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) after they overcomed Al-Shabaab militants during an attack in Lamu on Sunday morning.
The terrorists attacked Manda Airstrip in Lamu which hosts KDF soldiers and United States of America marine forces.
Jaguar hailed the forces for overpowering the terrorists and killing four of them in the dawn attack which Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility.
"We remain united as one Kenya despite the best efforts by terrorists to divide or destabilize us including today’s attack on Camp Simba at Manda Bay in Lamu. We also stand behind our security forces as they fight Al Shabaab. Thank you KDF for repulsing recent attacks in Lamu," the MP tweeted.
On his part, Ngunyi turned Biblical in support of war against the terrorists, who he mocked as being less powerful as widely perceived.
"This is how to deal with Al-Shabaab "...You shall make no covenants with them. And you shall show them no mercy. . For they shall show you none..." (Deut 7:2, Lord of the Ring) They are not half as strong as we think they are! One Kenya," the political scientist tweeted.
According to a statement from KDF, viral photos of heavy smoke coming from the military base were as a result of fuel tanks that caught fire during the attack which was neutralised by the soldiers.
"This morning at around 5:30 am an attempt was made to breach security at Manda Air Strip. The attempted breach was successfully repulsed. Four terrorists bodies have so far been found. The airstrip is safe."
"Arising from the unsuccessful breach, a fire broke out affecting some of the fuel tanks located at the airstrip. The fire has been put under control and standard security procedures are now on-going," read a statement posted on Twitter.
