The Immigration office has now come out to reveal that people will still get their passports even after the August deadline.
This comes after long queues were witnessed at Nyayo House in Nairobi on Friday to beat the deadline.
In a tweet on Monday, the Immigration department assured Kenyans that the digital passport acquisition is a continuous process hence, people should not be in a hurry to apply.
"Passport issuance is a continuous process. We will still issue passports after the August deadline. If there is no urgency to travel, you can still come after August and we will process your application.#AskImmigrationKE," said the Immigration department.
The government started to phase out old passports in 2017. Holders of the old passports were required to replace them with the new digial passports.
The government has since then opened new Immigration centres across the country in a bid to ease congestion at the Immigration head office in Nairobi.
Newly-opened centre are in Eldoret, Nakuru, Kisii and Embu. Other centers are located outside the country in South Africa, Berlin, London and Paris in Europe and Washington DC in the US and Dubai.
