The family of the Deputy President William Ruto’s deceased pilot Mario Maisiba Magonga has decided to seek legal redress over his property.
The mother of the deceased, Melania Magonga has asked the court to direct his partner Joy Mwangi to release all documents outlining his wealth.
According to the mother, the release of the documents will make it easy for the kin to share the wealth after the pilot died following a helicopter crash in Turkana. The deceased is survived by his wife Harriet Nekoye, two daughters and a son.
At the time of his death, the pilot was living with Mwangi in Karen and the three children from his first marriage. It has now emerged that the deceased had not finalised the divorce with the first wife before his untimely death.
Melania’s lawyer Sammy Waweru told the court that Ms Mwangi had hidden all the necessary documents following the death of the pilot to stop other beneficiaries from accessing the same.
“After the news of the death of Captain Marouis (Mario) Magonga, the partner Joy Mwangi confiscated and hid all the documents in relation to the estate of the deceased,” said lawyer Waweru, as quoted by the Standard.
In a case presented before the High Court Judge Lydia Achode, the family wants the estate retained until the matter is addressed. It has also emerged that the government is yet to present the family with the pilot’s death certificate.
The pilot’s former employer, Kwea Island Development Limited (KIDL) Helicopters, has also not revealed to the family what caused the crash.
