As the country awaits the much-hyped state of the nation address by President Uhuru Kenyatta, residents from Western Kenya especially Kakamega are hoping that the Head of State will address about sugar cane farming.
The residents who are commonly sugar cane farmers want the President to prioritize on cane farming sugar importation and give more insights on the bilateral agreement with the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
The sugar industry has been facing myriad challenges as the country weighs in privatizing the industries for its revival.
Kakamega is the bedrock of cane farming across the Western region which the President must keep an eye on in order to regain the trust of the residents and the nation at large.
Raising their concerns, residents at Ikolomani, said that dirty politics and privatization has killed the cane industry in the region.
''The President should re-look at his appointments on the privatization board and focus his energy to the increased corruption and exploitation of farmers by the political class,'' said Wanjala, a resident.
"Hawa watu wanatukandamiza zaidi manake sisi ni wanyonge tunaomba rais azungumzie hayo. (These people are making our lives terrible. We urge the president to talk on the same)," said Sara Nanjala.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is bound to address a joint Parliamentary house this afternoon as Kenyans await eagerly for the Head of State address.
