Former TNA chairman Nakuru county Abdul Noor has faulted the move taken by Jubilee Party leadership not to field candidates for the forthcoming Embakasi South and Ugenya constituencies by-elections.
Addressing media in Nakuru, Noor termed the move a denial of political rights and democracy to party aspirants who had interest in the seats.
“I fault the Jubilee party following a letter to IEBC that they will not field candidates for the Embakasi South and Ugenya constituencies’ by-elections. That is denying the people and candidates their rights,” said Noor.
According to Noor, the move will see many lose hopes in the Jubilee party towards 2022.
He called on President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Jubilee party leader, to ensure the party does not deny the electorates their right and democracy.
“People may end up not having confidence in Jubilee party towards 2022 politics. We therefore call on President Kenyatta to ensure the Party does not deny electorates their democracy to elect a leader of their choice,” he added.
Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju in a letter to IEBC said the party will not field any candidate in the forthcoming by-elections in Ugenya and Embakasi South constituencies.
The party said the decision was reached after wide consultations.
Tuju also said the decision was informed by the spirit of furthering the steps of constructive engagements with the other main parties engaged in the contest and with an eye on the bigger picture.
The by-elections for the two constituencies will be held on April 5.
