Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Saturday launched a cleanup exercise as one of the strategies to reclaim the city's lost glory.
The cleanup exercise was carried out in 85 wards and Sonko has said that it will be conducted on the every first Saturday of the month.
The Nairobi county boss while launching the exercise called upon the city residents to turn up in large numbers whenever the clean up is carried out.
“Let’s support the initiative to make our environment better. A clean environment is a collective responsibility of all citizens,” he said while launching the exercise in Kayole.
Mike Sonko has seemingly borrowed the cleanup initiative from Rwanda's capital Kigali which has been argued as the cleanest city in the region.
Nairobi county has been on the limelight for piles of garbage that has hindered drainage in the city especially during rainy seasons.
The initiative is aimed at restoring the city’s lost glory as the “green city in the sun”.
