A man descended on his wife with kicks and blows after she allegedly abandoned their 3-months-old baby in the bedroom and went to a chang’aa den to gallop the illicit brew on Sunday in Metembe village, Kisii County.
Residents said the woman, Margaret Ondieki, is a chang’aa addict who has refused to reform.
"Mrs Ondieki is a notorious chang’aa addict in the village. She gave birth to a baby boy 3 months ago and on Sunday abandoned it in their bedroom and went to drink chang’aa when her husband, Maurice Ondieki caught her she got a ruthless beating,” said Nicholas Nyabicha.
Area assistant chief, Boniface Okenye, said several families are suffering in the area due to chang’aa consumption.
“Some illegal traders are still selling illicit brews secretly in the area but, we will soon catch up with them. The married couple should avoid consuming chang’aa to build strong marriages,” he noted.
According to the administrator, both women and men in the village have ventured fully into chang’aa consumption abandoning parental responsibilities.
