The country must stop momentarily and address the root cause of such raging anger that accompanies rejection and betrayal between young couples.

Rejections have always been part of the love game; players have always known and understood the reality of betrayal.

But if the recent trend is anything to go by, then we can only assume one of two things; either the payers forgot the rules of the game or some drastic changes happened to the game, some of which the players are completely oblivious to.

A great number of the recent romantic escapades that ended in murder most foul has greatly impacted on the female gender, the most recent victim being Moi University medical student Ivy Wangechi.

So we should pose the question, why is the boy child becoming an oven of anger and a chamber pot of romantic aggression?

Could it be that the empowerment of the girl child has somehow brought about insecurities within their male counterparts?

In a society where women are becoming more independent and confident by the day, is the boy child somehow feeling under siege?

In a past interview with the Nation, Josephine Abincha, a practising counselling psychologist seemed to agree as much. She saw it as an act of intimidation by men.

If this is found out to be the case, how can we then empower the girl child but not at the expense of the boy child? Are lessons on morality and gender relations becoming undervalued to our society’s detriment?

These undervalued lessons could help mitigate our current predicament as a country.

These are questions that every well-meaning Kenyan should deeply ruminate over. Cause the country as it stands is a den of anger, a grave filled with bones of anguish.
