The Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua led party is optimistic of clinching the seat.

Mutua is set to lock horns with former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka whose party's candidate Julius Mawathe will be defending his seat.

One of the governor's allies, Alexander Mutisya Mulatya is unfazed as he faces Wiper’s Mawathe in one of the most competitive by-elections.

Mutua took to social media to share Mulatya's photos as he presented his nomination papers to IEBC officials in Embakasi South for clearance.

“This morning, our candidate for the Embakasi South MP by-election Alexander Mutisya Mulatya presented his nomination papers to IEBC officials at Chaminade Polling Station- Mukuru Kwa Njenga,” Mutua tweeted on Tuesday.

The race has also attracted Angela Mwikali (Thirdway Alliance),  Irshad Sumra (ODM), Jafferson Teddy Kasingu (KANU) and Jairus Mulei Musyoka (Independent).

Kalonzo had requested the Raila Odinga-led ODM party not to front a candidate for the contest but his plight was ignored by the political outfit.

The by-election comes at a time when Kalonzo is facing a rebellion in his Ukambani backyard.

The three Ukambani governors, Mutua, Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) want Kalonzo to retire from active politics so as to pave way for a youthful leader to take the mantle as the Kamba nation's political kingpin.
